“Goodbye ‘89” is a love letter to the pioneering activists of the ‘80s.
The audience is a guest at a run down flat in Earl’s court in 1989, home to a ragtag group of young women, also known as “whores, dykes, and strays”. We drop in on New Year’s Eve as the women are getting ready for the biggest (and riskiest) protest of their lives. Amidst the coke and chaos, each woman fights to be visible in a world in which they are not seen. Will they go through with it? And will they even succeed?
