Brazen is an autobiographical journey exploring coming of age, the nature of idolatry and the transformative power of music. Why do we get obsessed by strangers who feel like kindred spirits? Do we need to be lost in the idea of being someone else in order to stand being ourselves? Using storytelling, poetry, physical theatre, music and audience participation, Brazen is inspired by a deep connection to The Doors and their charismatic front man Jim Morrison.
Ever since Lorna was played their dark psychedelic rock, their lead singer’s wild antics have inspired a potent mixture of fascination and fear. Her discovery prompted a struggle with the need to conform with the urge to be rebellious and authentic.
Charting an awkward adolescence in a quiet seaside town, to the seductive alleyways of Paris on a night that changed everything, to a stormy encounter in a bedroom, the show culminates in a full on Bacchanalian dance-off.
Poignant, shameless, funny, unpredictable and ultimately celebratory in the face of adversity, the shows underlying message is how our complicated relationship with bravery is not necessarily resolvable, but bearable because of people who inspire us, and the universal need to dance till you feel like you again.
Sometimes the wildest thing you can do is be yourself.
Lorna is an emerging solo theatre maker with a background in acting, performance poetry and devised theatre. She is Co-Creative Director of RoguePlay Theatre and is currently previewing her second solo show ‘No Entry!’ about female sexual dysfunction, debunking myths around sex and virginity and ditching shame.
